Hakone: Where to Eat, What to Do and Where to Stay

Food · Things to do · Where to stay

Hakone is a mountain area built around a few transport links: the Tozan train from Hakone-Yumoto to Gora (about 40 minutes), the cable car to Sounzan, the ropeway over Owakudani to Togendai, and the cruise across Lake Ashi. Most sights, restaurants and hotels sit at one stop on that route.

The pages below split Hakone the way a trip does: what to do, where to eat, and which base to stay in. Sight and museum hours mostly end at 17:00, and the ropeway can stop for weather or volcanic gas readings.
