Atami: What to Do and Where to Stay

Food · Things to do · Where to stay

Atami is a hot spring town on the sea, about 45 minutes from Tokyo by Kodama shinkansen or about 1 hour 20 minutes by the Odoriko limited express. The shopping streets are outside JR Atami Station, Sun Beach is 15–20 minutes on foot, and the MOA Museum of Art, Kiunkaku and Atami Castle are short bus rides away. Fireworks are launched over Atami Bay on set evenings through the year, from 20:20.

Where you stay decides how much you walk. Only the hotel by the station is a few minutes on foot; the town centre and Sun Beach side is 10–15 minutes, and the hotels at Wadahama by the port, at Nishikigaura and on the hillside are reached by hotel shuttle, bus or taxi.
