Good to know
Kawagoe has few places to stay: the Koedo Kawagoe Tourism Association lists about fourteen across its hotel, ryokan and guesthouse pages. Eight are on this page. Most are station hotels by Kawagoe Station (JR and Tobu) or Hon-Kawagoe Station (Seibu); Matsumuraya Ryokan and Hatago COEDOYA are in the old town.
Ikebukuro is the other base. The Tobu Tojo Line starts there, and its Kawagoe Tokkyu trains reach Kawagoe from 26 minutes. Two Ikebukuro hotels are listed at the end.
Check before you book: the Kawagoe Tobu Hotel is closed from 11:00 on 14 November to 14:00 on 15 November 2026, and its check-in moves to 15:00 for stays from 1 December 2026 booked on or after 1 October. Tantoku Teien takes no overnight guests on Mondays outside busy seasons.

Should I stay near Kawagoe Station or Hon-Kawagoe Station?
It depends on your train. Kawagoe Station is on the Tobu Tojo Line to Ikebukuro and the JR line to Shinjuku; Hon-Kawagoe is the Seibu Shinjuku Line terminus. Hon-Kawagoe is closer to the old town on foot: about 15 minutes to Toki no Kane and Kitain.

Yes. The Kawagoe Tokkyu on the Tobu Tojo Line runs from Ikebukuro to Kawagoe from 26 minutes.
