Good to know

Shinjuku's food sits in four zones around the station. The east side, Kabukicho and Golden Gai, is where the late-night options are: Ichiran and Nagi are open 24 hours and the Kabuki Yokocho food hall runs 6:00 to 5:00 the next morning. The west exit has Omoide Yokocho and a tsukemen flagship in Nishi-Shinjuku. Shinjuku-sanchome and the east exit hold the department-store food hall, the tempura, curry and fruit-parlour institutions. The south side has Takashimaya's 35-restaurant floors.

Daytime and evening are different here. The Isetan food hall closes at 20:00 and the Takano fruit shop and parlour at 20:00, while Golden Gai bars mostly open around 20:00. Omoide Yokocho and Golden Gai counters seat only five or six, and Omoide is listed as cash. At Ichiran you buy a ticket at a vending machine.

Check before you go: Tsunahachi's main store is temporarily closed for rebuilding, and the open Shinjuku branch is the annex listed below. Takano lists closed days for fiscal 2026, the next being 1 January, 18 January, 15 February and 15 March 2027.
