A large hotel on the hillside above the city, with the Sora-kan building (opened January 2023) and Hoshi-kan (opened 23 January 2025). The Tanayu terraced bath, the Aqua Garden and Suginoi Palace are on the same grounds.

7Okamotoya Ryokan岡本屋旅館
Onsen ryokan · Myoban
A ryokan in Myoban Onsen with milky-white sulphur water; three of its six room types have their own hot spring bath. It does not take day bathers. Its shop, Okamotoya Uriba (Myoban 3-kumi, 8:30–18:30, open every day), sells jigoku-mushi pudding.

Good to know
Beppu Station and Kitahama are the base for arriving by train and moving on by bus: four of the hotels here are between about 5 and 10 minutes on foot from JR Beppu Station, and Takegawara Onsen is about 10 minutes away. Kannawa puts you next to five of the hells, about 20 minutes by bus from the station; Myoban is higher up, about 30 minutes by bus.
Suginoi Hotel and Sanso Kannawaen both run a free shuttle from the station: Suginoi from the West Exit, about 10 minutes; Kannawaen from the East Exit by reservation, about 30 minutes, with the last one at 17:30.
On top of the room rate, Beppu charges a bathing tax per person per night: ¥250 when lodging and meals come to ¥6,001–¥50,000, ¥500 above that. Children under 12 are exempt.

Most room types at Kannawaen have a private open-air bath, and three of Okamotoya's six room types have their own hot spring bath. Yamada Bessou has a private open-air bath at ¥1,000 per person.
In the hot spring districts
Kannawaen is in Kannawa, where five of the seven hells are. Okamotoya is in Myoban, the same hot spring area as the Myoban Yunosato yunohana huts.
Arriving late
Yamada Bessou adds ¥1,000 per room for arrivals 21:00–22:00 and does not accept arrivals after 23:00 except for transport delays. Kannawaen's last shuttle leaves the station at 17:30.
