Good to know
Yokohama's eating on this list falls into four groups: Chinese food in Chinatown, ramen and other noodles (the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum and the Noodles Bazaar at the Cupnoodles Museum), dishes tied to the city's history (Kiyoken shumai, on sale since 1928, and the shrimp doria and spaghetti Napolitan of Hotel New Grand's The Cafe), and everyday stops: Noge's izakaya, the food floors at CIAL Yokohama and the cafés and restaurants of the Red Brick Warehouse.
Closing times matter here. The Noodles Bazaar takes its last order at 17:30 and the museum it sits in is closed on Tuesdays. The Ramen Museum runs until 21:00, The Cafe until 21:30 (last order 21:00) and CIAL Yokohama until 21:00. Chinatown's hours and closed days are set shop by shop, as are Noge's.
Iekei ramen, with its rich pork-bone soy-sauce soup and thick straight noodles, began with the Yoshimura family's shop, opened in 1974 in Shin-sugita, Yokohama, according to Visit Kanagawa, the prefecture's tourism site.
