Miyajima: What to Do and Where to Stay

Food · Things to do · Where to stay

Miyajima is a 10-minute ferry ride from Miyajimaguchi, about 30 minutes from JR Hiroshima Station on the Sanyo Line. Both ferry companies charge the ¥100 Miyajima Visitor Tax on top of the fare on the crossing to the island. Itsukushima Shrine opens at 6:30, and the Miyajima Tourist Association's tide page shows for each date when you can walk out to the Great Torii.

Kinsuikan and Miyajima Hotel Makoto are about 5 minutes on foot from Miyajima Pier; Iwaso, by Momijidani, is about 15 and offers a free pier pickup. On the mainland, Miyajima Coral Hotel is about 30 seconds from the ferry pier. The last JR ferry back from the island leaves at 22:14 on a regular day.
