    An Okinawa soba shop that describes its noodles as hand-made in the manner of Sakuraya, a Shuri soba house that closed in 1993. Good to know

Naha's food falls into four groups, and each has its own part of town. Makishi Public Market, Pork Tamago Onigiri, Blue Seal and Okashi Goten are on or beside Kokusai-dori. The Okinawa soba shops Shuri Soba and Shimujo are in Shuri. Mikado, Jack's Steak House and Jef are diners and steak and burger places in other districts, and Sakaemachi Market is the evening drinking area at Asato Station.

The soba shops sell out, so go early. Shuri Soba serves 11:30–14:00 or until the noodles are gone and is closed Thursdays and Sundays. Shimujo makes 100 bowls a day, opens at 11:00 with queue guidance from 10:45, takes no reservations, takes cash only and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Jack's Steak House is also cash only and closed Wednesdays.

Dates to plan around: Makishi Public Market is closed on Sunday 25 October 2026 (it closes on the fourth Sunday of each month and is open every day in December). Jack's Steak House is closed 9–12 November and 31 December 2026. For late meals, Mikado stays open until 24:00, NAKAMA takes its last order at 21:30 and Jack's accepts entry until 22:00.
