Without a car, stay by Takachiho Bus Center. The Takachiho-go express bus from Kumamoto and the route bus from Nobeoka arrive there, and six of the places on this list are 1 to 10 minutes away on foot. Takachiho Shrine, where the kagura is performed at 20:00 every night, is about 15 minutes on foot from the bus centre.
The hotels a short drive out in Mitai, the inn in Oshikata near Kunimigaoka and the ryokan in Iwato near Amano Iwato Shrine are 5 to 15 minutes by car from the bus centre. Unkai no Yado Chigi in Oshikata picks up guests arriving by public transport at the bus centre at 15:00, booked by phone by the day before.
