Good to know
Most of the eating at Kyoto Station is inside the station complex and under one roof: the ramen street on the 10th floor of the station building, the Porta restaurants underground and on the 11th floor, the Isetan department store, the Washoku Koji restaurant street in the Kyoto Gekijo theatre, and the food hall in Kyoto Tower Sando across the road. Two ramen shops, Honke Daiichi-asahi and Shinpuku Saikan, are in Higashi-Shiokoji, a few minutes on foot from the station.
Hours decide most of the choice. Honke Daiichi-asahi opens at 6:00 and closes at 1:00 a.m. (closed Thursdays). Shinpuku Saikan is open 9:00–20:00, takes cash only and posts its closed days each month: 20 and 21 October 2026. Kyoto Ramen Koji runs until 22:00, the Isetan food floors close at 20:00, and the Kyoto Tower Sando food hall stays open until 23:00.
One date to plan around: Isetan has announced that some of its restaurants will close temporarily from around mid-December 2026, because of works on the station building and the free passage. It lists the affected shops in a PDF on its notice page. For restaurants elsewhere in the city, see the Kyoto food page.
