Questions
Should I stay in Furano or Biei?
Furano has the ski areas and two hotels within three minutes' walk of Furano Station. Biei town has small hotels beside its own station, and the buses to Shirogane Blue Pond and Shirogane Onsen leave from Biei Station. The two stations are about 36 minutes apart by regular train (Biei Tourism Association; the Furano Tourism Association gives 40), so either base reaches the other in a day.
Do I need a car to stay in Furano or Biei?
Not for the bases on this page. The Lavender Bus links Furano Station with Kitanomine and the Furano Ski Area, Dohoku Bus runs daily from Biei Station to Shirogane Onsen, and several hotels run shuttles by reservation. By car, Furano to Biei is about 40 minutes on Route 237. Aonobi Yuyu advises against the mountain roads across from Kamifurano, which it says are poor and closed from late October to early May because of snow.
Which of these hotels have a hot spring?
LA VISTA Furano Hills (own source, top floor), Hotel Naturwald Furano (Komeiseki spring), Hotel Bell Hills (hot springs listed), the New Furano Prince Hotel (Shisai no Yu, separate entry fee) and the three Shirogane Onsen hotels: Hotel Park Hills, Aonobi Yuyu and Mori no Shizuku RIN. Nozo Hotel has a large bath and sauna that it does not call a hot spring.
Is Mt. Tokachidake a problem for a stay at Shirogane Onsen?
On 16 October 2026 at 10:00 the Japan Meteorological Agency lowered the Mt. Tokachidake alert from Level 3 (entry restricted) to Level 2 (crater-area restrictions). It says eruptions affecting the area within about 1.5 km of the 62-2 crater are still possible. Hotel Park Hills posted on 16 October that it was operating normally. Check the Agency's current notice and your hotel before you travel.
Is any hotel closed this autumn?
The New Furano Prince Hotel and its on-site facilities are closed 4 to 26 November 2026 (reopening at 12:00 on 26 November), and Nozo Hotel is closed 15 to 19 November for scheduled maintenance. Relaxible inn Musubiya in Biei is closed every Tuesday.
