Good to know
If you arrive by train from New Chitose Airport and will use JR trains, stay at Sapporo Station: the Rapid Airport train reaches it in about 37 minutes, and JR Tower Hotel Nikko is directly connected to the station. If your evenings are for eating and drinking out, stay in Susukino. Odori sits between them, one subway stop from each.
Sapporo, Odori, Susukino and Nakajima-koen are consecutive stops on the Namboku subway line, so the four city bases are at most three stops apart. Between Sapporo Station and Odori runs Chi-Ka-Ho, an underground walkway of about 520 m (about 10 minutes on foot), and the underground route continues to Susukino Station. In winter, a hotel joined to a station or to the walkway lets you come and go under cover.
Jozankei Onsen is a hot-spring town in Sapporo's Minami-ku, about 53 minutes by car from Sapporo Station. The two Jozankei hotels below run reservation-only shuttle buses that leave the station's North Exit at 14:00 or 14:30 and return in the morning.

Questions
What is the best area to stay in Sapporo?
It depends on the trip. For the airport train and JR day trips, Sapporo Station: the Rapid Airport train arrives there in about 37 minutes with no transfer. For evenings out, Susukino. For a bit of both, Odori, one subway stop from each. All three are consecutive stops on the Namboku Line.
Is it better to stay at Sapporo Station or in Susukino?
Sapporo Station is where the airport train arrives and JR trains leave; Susukino is two subway stops south and is the entertainment district. If most of your days start with a JR train, the station side saves a ride; if most of your evenings end in Susukino, Susukino saves the ride back.
How do I get from New Chitose Airport to my hotel in Sapporo?
The JR Rapid Airport train to Sapporo Station takes about 37 minutes (the special rapid about 33). The airport bus to Sapporo Station takes about 70 minutes. Some hotels have their own stop: the airport bus boards at Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo's north entrance (about 90 minutes), and an airport shuttle bus stops at Nakajima Park (about 80 minutes). From Sapporo Station, the Namboku subway line runs to Odori, Susukino and Nakajima-koen.
Where should I stay for the Sapporo Snow Festival?
The festival has three sites: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. Hotels in Odori and Susukino are the closest to the first two. In 2025 it ran from 4 to 11 February; the festival's site, snowfes.com, posts each year's dates.
Can I stay in Jozankei instead of central Sapporo?
Jozankei Onsen is inside Sapporo city (Minami-ku) but about 53 minutes by car from Sapporo Station. Hotel shuttles leave the station's North Exit in the afternoon (14:00 for Shogetsu Grand Hotel, 14:30 for Hotel Milione) and return in the morning, reservation only; the Jotetsu bus takes about 68 minutes.
