Good to know

Yatai come first. Fukuoka City’s tourism site counts more than 100 of them, in four areas: Tenjin and Yakuin, Nakasu-Kawabata, the Ohori and Rokkonmatsu side, and Nagahama. Each stall sets its own opening time and closed days, so the city publishes a map and a LINE guide instead of one schedule. The ramen, motsunabe, mizutaki and mentaiko places below are mostly in three districts: around Hakata Station, in Nakasu and Kawabata, and in Tenjin and Daimyo.

For late hours, Ichiran’s head shop in Nakasu is open 24 hours. Maedaya, Rakutenchi and Hanamidori in Hakata-ekimae serve until midnight. For an early start, Yanagibashi Rengo Market opens from 8:00 (closed Sundays and public holidays) and Fukuya’s Hakata Daitos shop opens at 8:00. Shinmiura asks for a booking by the day before and takes two or more guests; Maedaya takes reservations online or by phone.
