Fukuoka City's tourism site counts more than 100 yatai, in four areas: Tenjin and Yakuin, Nakasu-Kawabata, the Ohori and Rokkonmatsu side, and Nagahama. For sights, start in Hakata old town: Kushida Shrine, Hakata Machiya Furusatokan and Tochoji are within a few minutes' walk of Gion and Kushida-jinja-mae stations, and Canal City is about 10 minutes on foot from Hakata Station.

Dazaifu Tenmangu, Nokonoshima and Uminonakamichi are the day trips. For the shortest ride from the airport, stay by Hakata Station; two hotel listings put the airport about 5 minutes from JR Hakata Station by subway.
