Good to know
Sleeping on the island means no last boat to catch. Benesse House guests get free entry to Benesse House Museum until 23:00 and a guests-only bus from Miyanoura Port; Miyanoura has guesthouses and a ryokan 1–7 minutes from the ferries; Honmura puts you on foot from the Art House Project.
A mainland base works if you plan around the timetable. From Uno, Shikoku Kisen ferries and passenger boats reach Miyanoura in about 15–20 minutes for ¥370, from 6:10 until a late-night boat at 0:35. From Takamatsu the ferry takes about 50–60 minutes (¥680) and the high-speed boat about 30 (¥1,590); the last boat back from Miyanoura is the 19:45 high-speed boat.
Times here are from Shikoku Kisen's timetable pages, which carry no validity dates, and sailings are cancelled in bad weather (several were on 21 October 2026). Check the operator's notices on the day.

Minatoya is 2 minutes and MY LODGE 7 minutes from Miyanoura Port. On the mainland, Uno Port Inn is a minute from the ferry terminal and JR Hotel Clement has a covered walkway to Takamatsu's.

The Takamatsu Airport limousine bus stops at JR Hotel Clement (about 40 min, ¥1,000). From Uno, the late-night boat to Miyanoura leaves at 0:35.

Is it better to stay on Naoshima or in Takamatsu or Uno?
On the island you have no last boat: Benesse House guests view the museum until 23:00 and I♥湯 in Miyanoura is open until 21:00. From Takamatsu the last boat back from Miyanoura is the 19:45 high-speed boat (17:00 for the ferry). From Uno there are boats until a late-night sailing at 0:15 from Miyanoura.
How long is the ferry to Naoshima, and what does it cost?
Uno to Miyanoura: about 20 minutes by ferry or 15 by passenger boat, ¥370 (late-night boat ¥730). Takamatsu to Miyanoura: about 50–60 minutes by ferry for ¥680, or about 30 minutes by high-speed boat for ¥1,590. Shikoku Kisen runs all three; passenger boats take no bicycles or cars.
Can I book Benesse House now for 2026 and 2027?
Stays from 1 August 2026 are booked through Benesse House's new reservation system, linked from its official page. From 1 April 2027, Benesse House guests can visit eligible art facilities without buying tickets or booking ahead.
How do I get from Miyanoura Port to my hotel?
Benesse House runs a guests-only bus from the port, and Roka a free shuttle. The town bus (¥100) goes from Miyanoura through Honmura to Tsutsuji-so. The island has only two taxis, so book them ahead.
