Good to know
Pick Toyama Station as the base unless you want a hot spring night in the mountains. Seven hotels are 1 to 5 minutes on foot from the station: six on the south exit side, where the city trams start, and Oaks Canal Park Hotel on the north side. The Toyama Chiho Railway train to Tateyama, the start of the Alpine Route, leaves from Dentetsu-Toyama and takes about 65 minutes.
For an early start on the Alpine Route, Hotel Morinokaze Tateyama is a hot spring hotel that picks guests up from Tateyama Station on request. For the Kurobe Gorge Railway, Yamanoha is about 3 minutes on foot from Unazuki-Onsen Station and Togen about 8 minutes from the trolley station. Hotel Tateyama at Murodo stopped taking guests on 31 August 2026, so it is not listed.
Takaoka suits Zuiryuji, the Daibutsu and the World Heritage Bus to Gokayama; Hotel New Otani Takaoka is about 5 minutes from Takaoka Station. Check-in runs 14:00–15:00 and check-out 10:00–11:00 where the hotel or the city tourism site states it; rates are not shown because they change daily.
