Kusatsu Onsen: What to Do and Where to Stay

Food · Things to do · Where to stay

Kusatsu Onsen is built around Yubatake, where about 4,000 litres of hot water a minute run through seven wooden channels. Yubatake, the yumomi show at Netsunoyu and the Gozanoyu bathhouse are about 5 minutes on foot from Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal, and Sainokawara Park and its open-air bath are 15 to 20 minutes away.

From Tokyo, the Joshu Yumeguri express bus reaches the bus terminal in about 4 hours; by rail, take the limited express from Ueno to Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi and the JR bus for about 25 minutes. Two inns face Yubatake, three more are a few minutes from it, and three hotels outside the centre run their own buses from the terminal.
