Tokyo Tower and teamLab Borderless both list the same subway station, Kamiyacho, among their access points, so a view and teamLab fit into one morning without a train between them. This page follows one real morning: Monday, January 12, 2026, Coming of Age Day, a public holiday in Japan. The times below are rounded from when the photos were taken that morning.
Quick answer: Tower first, Borderless second, on foot. That morning: at the foot of the tower just before ten, on the Main Deck by half past, back on the street around eleven, and inside teamLab Borderless from about a quarter past eleven until just before one. The one thing to buy before the day is the Borderless ticket, because it carries an entry time. The Main Deck ticket was bought at the tower that morning.

teamLab Borderless admission ticket on Klook
The Borderless entrance pass is for a set date and entry time, so this is the one ticket in the morning that has to be picked before the day. Adult prices change by date.
Check the teamLab Borderless ticket on Klook →Sold on Klook (Klook Travel Technology Limited), an online travel agency; the museum is teamLab's. teamLab's own ticket section names its ticket website and Klook as the places to buy online. Before you pay, check on the listing: the entry date and time slot, the price for that date, how the ticket reaches you, and the change and cancellation terms. teamLab's own date-change rule covers only tickets bought on its own ticket website.
What the morning is: a deck, a short walk, a museum
Two different things, one after the other. Tokyo Tower’s Main Deck is a view, 150 m up. teamLab Borderless is a digital art museum on basement floor 1 of Azabudai Hills, with no fixed route and no limit on how long you stay once you are in.
| Tokyo Tower, Main Deck | teamLab Borderless | |
|---|---|---|
| Opens | 9:00 | 8:30 |
| Last entry | 22:30 (closes 23:00) | One hour before closing (21:00 close; 22:00 on listed dates) |
| Adult ticket | ¥1,500, same price however you buy | ¥3,400 shown on 2026-10-11; changes by date; +¥200 on site |
| Entry time on the ticket | None needed for the Main Deck | Yes, on the entrance pass |
| From Kamiyacho Station (Hibiya Line) | Exit 1, 7 min walk | Exit 5, 2 min walk |

Hours and prices are as posted by Tokyo Tower and teamLab on October 11, 2026. Tokyo Tower notes the Main Deck’s last entry can come earlier when it is crowded.
What it costs per person
For one adult, the Main Deck at ¥1,500 plus a Borderless entrance pass at the ¥3,400 posted for October 11 comes to ¥4,900. Borderless adult prices follow dynamic pricing, so check the figure for your own date before you add it up.
Other ages, as posted:
- Tokyo Tower Main Deck: high school ¥1,200, elementary and junior high ¥900, children 4 and over ¥600.
- teamLab Borderless: 13 to 17 ¥2,800, 4 to 12 ¥1,500, 3 and under free. One adult for every five children is required.
- Top Deck Tour (Main Deck plus the Top Deck at 250 m): adult ¥3,300 online, ¥3,500 at the counter. The morning on this page stopped at the Main Deck.
A Borderless Flexible Pass, with no entry time on it, is ¥12,000 for a set date.
Which goes first
Borderless opens at 8:30, the tower at 9:00. Which one opens the morning depends on the entry time you can get at Borderless, not on the tower.
- If your Borderless entry time is late morning, do what this morning did: the tower from 9:00, then walk over.
- If you hold an 8:30 or 9:00 Borderless slot, reverse it. There is no time limit inside, and re-entry is not allowed, so leave when you are done and walk to the tower afterward.
- If what you want from Tokyo Tower is the tower lit up at night, this is not your morning. The Main Deck stays open until 23:00; Shibuya Sky vs Skytree vs Tokyo Tower sorts out which deck belongs to your evening.

If you are still deciding between the two teamLab museums, teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless? covers that first. Planets is across the bay in Toyosu, so it does not pair with the tower on foot.
The morning, in the order it happened
Before ten: getting to the tower
The night before was in Shimbashi, with trains on a Suica card held in an iPhone. From Shimbashi, the way to the tower started on foot and finished by taxi. Tokyo Tower’s own access page does not list Shimbashi Station at all; its nearest stations are Akabanebashi (Oedo Line, 5 min), Onarimon (Mita Line, Exit A1, 6 min), Kamiyacho (Hibiya Line, Exit 1, 7 min) and JR Hamamatsucho (North Exit, 15 min). If you are sleeping somewhere else, where to stay in Tokyo shows which areas sit on those lines.
Around half past ten: the Main Deck
The ticket was a same-day one, bought at the tower, and on a public holiday the deck was not crowded. Under half an hour after arriving at the foot of the tower, the first photo from the deck was taken: straight down onto the roofs of Zojoji temple.

Mt Fuji, by chance
Mt Fuji showed up to the west. It was not planned. From that far away, a mountain simply sits at the edge of the city; a current phone’s zoom brings it close. The three photos below were taken one after another.

Fuji is not something to plan the morning around. It needs a clear sky to the west that day, and this page has no official record of how often it shows from the tower. If it is there when you are on the deck, look west.
Around eleven: out, and the walk to Azabudai Hills
The walk went from the tower toward the towers of Azabudai Hills, through the city. From the street photo to the first photo inside Borderless took about fifteen minutes, entry included. Both places list Kamiyacho Station as an access point, which is the easiest way to judge the distance on a map. The signs and directions along the way were accurate.

A quarter past eleven to nearly one: inside teamLab Borderless
About an hour and forty minutes inside. The teamLab App was downloaded before the visit. That matters here: the museum has no artwork captions, because the works move between rooms, and teamLab’s page says to use the app to read about the work closest to you.
It was busy that holiday, and teamLab says to expect lines at the entrance at busy times and that some works may not be available because of crowds. What else teamLab tells you before you go:
- Come to the entrance at the time on your ticket. Do not wait around near the museum.
- No time limit once you are in; no re-entry.
- It is dark inside, with uneven floors and low ceilings. Some works have mirror floors; a wrap skirt can be borrowed next to them.
- Items over 50 cm are not allowed inside; lockers are free.

What to book now, and what can wait for the day
teamLab Borderless. The entrance pass is for a set date and entry time. teamLab says tickets can be bought on the day through its ticket website if they have not sold out, or on site at ¥200 more, and that they may sell out. Tickets are not refundable except when the museum closes unexpectedly. Bought on teamLab’s own ticket website, the date and time can be changed up to three times, up to two hours before the entry time; bought anywhere else, that seller’s terms apply. Posted closed days ahead: Tuesday October 20, Tuesday November 24 and Tuesday December 8, 2026.
Tokyo Tower Main Deck. One price however you buy it. The tower’s site says buying ahead makes entry smoother; that holiday morning, a ticket bought at the tower was enough.
So the purchase decision is one ticket. If your morning is fixed, pick a Borderless entry time about an hour and a quarter after you plan to reach the foot of the tower. That is roughly how long that morning took from the foot of the tower to the first room inside the museum. If you would rather start at Borderless, pick 8:30 or 9:00 instead.

The decision
- One free morning, Borderless slot late morning: tower at 9:00, Main Deck, walk, Borderless. Done by early afternoon.
- Only an early Borderless slot left: Borderless first, tower after.
- No Borderless slot on your date: the tower alone fits the morning; same-day Borderless tickets exist only if they have not sold out.
- Clear sky to the west: look for Fuji from the Main Deck, without counting on it.
The only thing to act on before the day is the Borderless entry time. Everything else in this morning was decided on the spot.
MY TAKE
I only went up as far as the Main Deck, and that was moving enough.
Tokyo Tower to Borderless: on foot. It felt like the city. It isn't far.
It was crowded, but it's art made of light spreading over everything, so it didn't feel crowded.
The stay was just the right length, and I'd recommend going as a couple, too.
Very Tokyo: even the art is city. That's what I like about it.
