Good to know
Pick the base by what you came for. The hotels by JR Gifu Station are 3 and 8 minutes on foot from the trains. The ryokan on the Nagara River are by the cormorant-fishing boats, about 20 minutes from the station by Gifu Bus. Gero Onsen is a hot spring town on the JR Takayama Line, and Gujo Hachiman has whole townhouses to rent.
Gero Station does not accept IC cards such as TOICA, so buy a ticket for the whole journey. Two of the Gero inns here are a short walk from the station; Bosenkan's free shuttle leaves the station at 14:30, 15:00, 15:30 and 16:30. Prices are not listed on this page because rates change daily.

Juhachiro is in Minatomachi, the same district as the ukai boat office. Ishikin overlooks the stretch of river where the fishing takes place, and some of its rooms look over the ukai.

Suimeikan is about 3 minutes and Ogawaya about 8 minutes on foot from JR Gero Station. Bosenkan runs a free shuttle from the station in the afternoon.

Where should I stay to see the Nagara River cormorant fishing?
The ukai boat office is at 1-2 Minatomachi, about 1 minute from the Nagarabashi-minami / Kawaramachi bus stop. Juhachiro is at 10 Minatomachi, and Ishikin, on the north bank, is about 6 minutes on foot from the Nagara River Ukai Museum. The season runs 11 May to 15 October.
Is there a hotel with a hot spring bath near JR Gifu Station?
Dormy Inn Gifu Ekimae, about 8 minutes on foot from the central north exit, has separate men's and women's large baths with natural hot spring water on the 6th floor.
What are the check-in times at the Gero Onsen inns?
