Takayama: What to Do and Where to Stay

Food · Things to do · Where to stay

Takayama has three bases. The old town, Takayama Jinya and the two morning markets are 10 to 15 minutes on foot from JR Takayama Station, and the markets close at noon. Hida Folk Village is about 10 minutes by Sarubobo Bus, Shirakawa-go about 50 minutes by Nohi Bus, and the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway about 80 minutes by car.

The pages below cover what to do and where to stay. Takayama Jinya costs ¥500 from 1 April 2026, and both Shin-Hotaka ropeways are suspended on 24 to 27 November 2026. Check-in is 15:00 at most of the ten places listed, in hotels by the station, ryokan by the old town and onsen inns in Okuhida Onsen-go.
