For a first trip, stay by Aomori Station. Hotel Route-Inn and Toyoko Inn are about 1 minute from the station, Dormy Inn about 10 minutes, and the JR buses to Hakkoda, Oirase and Lake Towada leave from the station. Shin-Aomori, where the Shinkansen stops, has a Toyoko Inn 2 minutes from the station.
Stay in Hirosaki for the castle and the cherry blossom festival: two hotels are 1–3 minutes from JR Hirosaki Station, and the castle is about 15 minutes by bus from there. To wake up by the Oirase Gorge or in the Hakkoda mountains, the Oirase Keiryu Hotel and Sukayu Onsen both run guest shuttles, from Hachinohe and Shin-Aomori respectively.
